news coming soon!
In 1995 the River Region Ballet, a non-profit 501(c) organization was established to introduce ballet classics along with contemporary works to both dancers and patrons in the outlying areas of New Orleans. The company brings together seasoned professionals and budding young dancers, to educate, inspire and enhance the art of dance in the River Parishes. It performs a full-length Nutcracker every December. In 1998, a Spring Concert was added to the ballet’s season. The Spring Concert opens the doors to many more ballets for our dancers and audience to explore and experience. The company’s repertoire ranges from classical to original works, from excerpts to full length ballets including: La Bayadere – Kingdom of Shades, The Fairy Garden, Royal Mischief, Swan Lake Act II, Les Sylphides, La Boutique Fanstasque, Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, Passages, and Thumbelina. Our dancers are chosen through open auditions and come not only from the River Parishes of St. Charles, St. John, and St. James but also from Jefferson, Orleans, St. Tammany and Lafourche parishes. Their performance opportunity allows them to meet, dance with, and observe the professional guest artists contracted for each production. The inspiration given by these professionals is priceless to aspiring dancers. The River Region Ballet continues to be a catalyst for dance and the arts in the River Parishes. The organization ensures quality productions totally produced within the community. The Board of Directors and the many Volunteers are dedicated to promoting the arts in the River Region. The hope is to instill a devotion to the arts and particularly ballet in all the dancers who embrace the opportunities bestowed through this organization, so that they may spread their own enthusiasm throughout the community.
